Trip summary

Fantastic experience bike tour and tast of the best Pelian recipes at a lovely hotel with excellent food and very comfortable rooms. No words are enough to convey their sense of hospitality.
Located on the central square of  Portaria with a very old platane. You feel like you’re in a special place while waking on this great tree from your balcony. The bed is large and very comfortable. The rooms are beautifully decorated. Imagine yourself in a castle.

 

Arrival Day: Welcome to the accommodation of the most famous gastronomy hotels in Pelion. (local gifts and welcome drink).

17:00pm. Tour of Portaria village through the famous cobbled streets, old traditional houses and churches and the return for dinner and overnight.

Day 1:  Greek traditional breakfast. See it al in one day!

10:30 Portaria to Volos city cycling through scenic trails.

11:30 Tour of Volos and sightseeing on two wheels.

“Lets go for a snap”  tasting tsipouro (local grape destilate).

We leave the bikes and return to Pelion by car.

Free afternoon for relaxation.

Dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Greek traditional breakfast and departure from Hotel.

10:00:  Walking to the Farm Karaiskos and tour the garden and the farm.

10:45: Cooking Course – Pelion Pie – leaf opening pie

When leaving Portaria will take with you a small food pack with pie cooked by you to enjoy it “on the road”.

Trip description.

 Arrival Day | 17:00. Tour of Portaria village through the famous cobbled streets, old mansions, splendid guesthouses, springs with crystal waters, the Byzantine chapel of “Panagia Portarea” (11th century), and many more. After visiting all these places, you will enjoy a coffee in central square Melina Mercouri, and then  return for dinner and overnight.

Day 1 | This guided bike tour which will give you a fascinating picture of Volos, the third largest Greek seaside city’s rich history and the birth place of the Argonauts.  We cycle along the old castle remains, an impressive imitation of the mythical ship Argo, the railway station of Volos build in 1880’s, the neoclassical houses, the tiny streets of the old city, the markets. the wonderfull boulevard while enjoying the spectacular views of Pelion mountain tops and take a sit at one of  the numerous traditional taverns called “Tsipouradika”. Volos is the birth place of “Tsipouradika” (traditional tapas bars) where we go to taste the famous Tsipouro snaps.

At the end we leave the bikes and return to Pelion by car.

Day 2 | A taste of traditional breakfast and into the second day we probably all want to know how we kan make all these things. Get an introduction to the culinary culture of Greece and Pelion, discover about the herbs native to Pelion, olive oil and other ingredients and participate in a cooking workshop preparing traditional dishes all in one go!

We will make then our way to the Farm Karaiskos where you will meet up with our resident chef  who will talk you through the basics of Pelian gastronomy during a tour of the garden and the farm. You participate in a cooking workshop, a hands on informative cooking experience. You prepare traditional dishes using only local and seasonal ingredients and enjoy the taste of a full meal under the trees. By the end of the day you know the local gastronomy basics!

The gastronomy, culture and natural landscape of Pelion will follow you back home through the traditional aromas and flavours of this region of Greece.
